Introduction

On-demand scanning is a new feature designed to enhance your experience by allowing you to quickly try out the detection and redaction capabilities of LightBeam's AI engine. This feature enables you to upload a file from your local machine, scan it to view the attributes detected by the AI engine, and download a redacted version of the file with sensitive attributes redacted. With on-demand scanning, you don't need to register a data source to try out LightBeam's detection capabilities; you can quickly test it on local files.

This document explores the key functionalities of on-demand scanning and guides you on effectively utilizing it within your workflow. By the end of this document, you'll have a comprehensive understanding of how to leverage on-demand scanning to achieve your goals.

Functionality

Follow these steps to use the on-demand scanning feature:

1. Go to the on-demand scanning feature page in the user interface (UI).

2. Click the Add Data Source button.

1. Click on Scan A Document card.

1. You are now on the main page for the on-demand scanning feature.

Upload a file to be scanned

Click the CHOOSE FILE button. Currently, the supported file types are png, jpg, and pdf, with a maximum file size of 5MB.

Once the file is uploaded, you can select the attribute sets you want to consider for scanning in the bottom-left area.

Note: You can only select attribute sets that are enabled from the Insights section. If you want to enable more attribute sets, you can do so from the Insights section.

If you try to upload a file larger than 5MB, it will not be blocked, but you will receive an error notification.

Scan the file

After uploading the file and selecting the attributes, click the Scan button in the bottom-right corner to start scanning.

Attribute detection results

Once the scanning is complete, you can view the detection results in the object viewer. On the left side, you'll see a list of detected attributes, and on the right side, you'll see where these attributes are detected in the file.

Since this feature is for on-demand scanning and redaction, the scan results are not saved permanently for later access. Once you leave the page or refresh the UI, the scan results will be deleted. If you want to access the scan results again, you'll need to rescan the file by following the above steps.

Download the redacted file

After verifying the scan results, you can download a redacted version of the file with the detected attributes redacted by following these steps:

1. Locate and click on the Download button in the top-right corner of the screen.

2. In the drop-down menu, you will see Redacted File option.

3. After clicking on it, the redacted file will be downloaded to your local machine.

The downloaded redacted file will be the same as the redacted file shown in the preview of the object viewer.
