Attribute Management Overview
Attribute Management
Overview
LightBeam’s Attribute Management feature helps users detect and manage sensitive data from various data sources. Attributes refer to specific pieces of sensitive information that LightBeam scans for in structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. These attributes often include regulated or confidential data that needs protection to ensure privacy, security, and compliance. Examples include credit card numbers, US Social Security Numbers (SSNs), names, addresses, and dates of birth.
With Attribute Management, users can easily find and access sensitive data. LightBeam automatically detects attributes using pre-defined system attribute sets or custom attribute sets created by users.
How LightBeam Automates Attribute Management:
Scanning data sources across the organization.
Scanning data sources across the organization.
Identifying attributes based on their sensitivity.
Detecting instances where attributes appear in data sources.
Tracking user access to sensitive attributes across all data sources.
By automating attribute management, LightBeam simplifies data protection, making it easier for organizations to stay compliant and secure.
Key Terminology
Data Sources- A Data Source is a resource, application or database, containing the repository of data which is scanned for sensitive information.

Attribute and Attribute Sets
Attributes are organized into Attribute Sets within LightBeam. An attribute set is a collection of attributes that are grouped together. A single attribute can be present in multiple Attribute Sets.
Note: An attribute will be enabled only if it is part of an already enabled attribute set.
There are two types of attributes:
System Attributes- Pre-defined attributes that LightBeam automatically detects by default.
Custom Attributes- User-defined attributes that the system is configured to detect.
There are two types of attribute sets:
